The residence in Kefalari, gathers the quintessence of the principles which run through the sum of the office’s oeuvre and at the same time marks the starting point of their 48-year progress in the field of architecture.
It constitutes an exemplar of intense collaboration between architect and owner, whose profession meant he was also the project engineer, with the aim of constructing an absolutely contemporary building of its time, which incorporated both the intention of transcending the principles of the modern movement, as well as a will to produce a building-as-machine, which would take advantage of the advances, automation and technological innovations taking place at the start of the nineteen seventies.
It revealed what is now a characteristic style in the architecture of K. Kyriakides office, with the residence extending over two levels: an elevated ground floor and a semi-basement level, which becomes ground level at the back of the building. In an attempt to provide sound insulation for the main areas of the residence, the building is placed on the building line, leaving the garden at the back to function as a refuge and a sensory oasis for the areas used during the day. For this reason an outside sitting area – sculture of Christos Didonis- was created on the extention of the basement wall.
