The project concerned the conversion of the «HERA» Maternity Clinic located at Mesogeion street, into a General Hospital, as well as the modernization of its departments and equipment, and compliance with the conditions of the current legislative framework about the operation of private clinics.

The basic functional structure of the building, remained the same even after the new works, since the initial approach of the functional requirements of the hospital and every type of human (visitors, patients, staff) or goods circulation was very well met from the beginning.

A complete surgical department was created in the first basement comprising of 11 operating theaters and their required auxiliary spaces and also an Intensive Care Unit of a uniform eight bed room and two isolation areas.

Main Entrance, Conference Hall, Buffet, Shop and other visitor service areas are located on the Ground Floor. The original wall sculpture by Kosmas Xenakis (1977) was retained, overlooking the Main-Entrance-Reception Area

Maintaining the external and interior aesthetics of the complex, while simultaneously remodeling a maternity hospital (with nineteen seventies architectural design features) in order to transform it into a fully functioning modern general hospital presented a continual yet fascinating challenge to the architects throughout the duration of the project.
